One of the rockers was way to tight so stopping cam rotating and therefor the crank.loosened cam belt adjusted rocker refitted cambelt/ timing all good now turns freely with nice compression.
ok glad its sorted, but im a bit confused here, it doesnt matter how tight the clearances were the engine should of still turned, unless they were causing valve/piston contact, either way very wrong for an engine built professionally

That's a new one on me, a tight tappet stopping an engne from turning. I am glad you are sorted anyway and at little expence.

that was still going through my mind, if it had valve piston contact you should of been able to turn it backwards

That problem would have been easily discovered had the timing belt been removed. Incidentally who found the problem the OP or the origanal engine builder?

Dont know why it would not turn backwards either!! It was locked solid.original builder came round and sorted? Removed belt cam stil not turn removed rocker and it freed up.crank moving freely.refitted rocker reset cam timing all turns properly now so i dont know what was going on with it???

I trust the 'Engine Builder' was suitably embarrassed and apologetic - bloody well hope so!
