    Cosworth 2wd Flywheel refitting

    Hi All,
Its been a long time since me taking off the flywheel.

Is it possible to mount it and bolt it on in the wrong position?

I know that the bolts are offset, but I really couldnt see as was bolting it on under the car, so just got it to a position where all the bolts started.

But now worrying I may have not put it on in the right position, andf the manual is not 100 clear

    Cheers

    Andy

A Cosworth crank has 9 bolts and so does the flywheel. If all 9 bolts screw through the flywheel into the crankshaft then you have fitted it correctly assuming the clutch mounting face is pointing towards the gearbox.

Sometimes if the crank, flywheel and clutch assembly have been balanced then there might be location marks of some form to align them.

one of the boltholes is offside a bit so it only goes back in the same place

I dont remember them being offset either, just that there are 9 of them rather than the usual pinto 6.
Longtime since mines been apart though, but it's got a steel flywheel an 8 1/2" clutch with a type 9.

You could be be right, as I'm just looking at pics of YB flywheels through Google images an one does look slighty offset. But I don't remember it being like that.

When I can get round the garage I might take the clutch off an have a look, Shouldn't be a biggy as the engines not in the car atm, just sat on an engine dolly.

thing is if the bolts are offset, if they have all screwed back in it must be in the right place

    Re: Cosworth 2wd Flywheel refitting

    Hi guys,

Thanks for the answers, gives me a bit of peace and mind. The manual shows one bolt slightly offset, its all bolted up, so as you have all said, if it bolted up, then its ok.

Its just everything has been balanced, so wanted to be 100% correct

    Thanks
    Andy

last year i had the gearbox out 3 times, swapping flywheels of different weights to gauge the difference
