    RS2000 new brakes issue.

    Hi
Hope someone can shed some light on an issue with new brakes.
I'm restoring an RS2000 that has been off the road for many years, so bought new:
    Solids discs
    Refurbed M16 Girling calipers
    Pads
    Wheel bearings

I've had the struts powder coated but, following installation on the car and fitting the callipers, the Pads are not lining up with the wear surface of the disc. The pad is approx 5mm in (towards the centre) from the edge of the disc, also the inner par of the pad is really close to the hub par of the disc.

i have rang Burton when the items came from and double checked they are all rs2000 parts, but is seems like the calliper is not far enough out.

What could be the issue be.??
Non RS struts??? Do these have calliper mounting holes closer to the strut ?

    Any help appreciated.
    RS2000 project.

from memory there were shims (spacers) between the legs and calipers

From my fading memory the std RS, Capri discs were 9.6 inches in diameter. There are both M and P16 calipers with the latter being imperial. I remember having the same problem that you are encountering but I cant remember if I did anything about it or not as it was around 40 years ago.

I think the shims that Graham has mentioned was to space the caliper away from the hub to stop it fouling.

It's a radial issue, pad surface needs to be further away from the centre point of the wheel/brearings.

ok got it it may just be some brands of pads have the material in slightly different positioning, but TBH i dont really see an issue if the pads are not hanging off teh edge of disc or hitting the middle your not going to have an issue. 5 or 6 mm's will make absolutely no difference to brake performance

The parts you have bought from your supplier will be from the Far East so they might vary a bit and not be identical to genuine ones from period. As long as the pads aren't grinding against something there shouldn't be too bigger issue.

Have you any photos to show us of the problem?

Yeah I get your points, I'll try to get some pictures up.
Going to a lot of effort to fully restore the car and then having a rusty 5mm band on the face of the disc will really piss me off, as usually if anything pads overhang the edge of discs by a fraction...
