    Type 9 gear kits

Currently shopping for a close ratio gear kit for a type 9 5 speed.
Looking at quaife sets and i see their clubman kit which uses the original mainshaft.
are the original mainshafts up to the job or is it worth forking out the extra to get a new one?
    Cheers

there is the quaife clubman which uses the original mainshaft or the pro or the tran x kit which use roller bearings on first and second gears and these are much better and stronger. I am sure the tran x is cheaper than the quaife pro kit and it is basically the same so go for either of them.

Does the tran x kit come with a new mainshaft? I also see a helical cut set in burton powers catalogue. Opinions?

i don't think so, it will be fine to use the original mainshaft with the tran x or quaife pro set up if they use the mainshaft. It has been so long since i rebuilt my box i can't remember now.

The Quaife clubman and Tranx are identical and use the standard manshaft, the Quaife pro uses its own mainshaft

Have been offered a t5 dog box. Difficult to fit? (currently has standard type 9) or a good option
    (It's well within my budget)

Have you considered a 3J Driveline gear kit ?

They are the guys that used to be Tran-X & have set up on their own with a range of very nicely engineered driveline components including gear kits, LSD's, half shafts, etc.

    Regards,
    David
