What car?
Mk1 Escort Thanks
The 5 speed type 9 is longer than the Ford 4 speeds so gear-lever will be a little further back.
The gearbox mount needs to sit lower and I believe Burton Performance do special lowering blocks.
The input shaft is 1” 23 spline
The output again is different to the prop-shaft you have So you will need your prop modified, probably shorter with a new front yoke.
Gearbox tunnel will need some bashing to get the bellhousing in.
I’m
Sure there is more and that others will fill in the gaps
re prop, you need either one from an automatic or an rs2000
Good call Graham, I think the RS2000 has a 4 speed and so 5 speed will be longer, there may be enough room on the prop end to take up the extra length but you would want about an 1” min for in out movement.
I found out that the Type 9 output is 25mm 25 spline
Ok I was talking Type E and Type 9 where the mounting is definitely further back than in the type E
If the overall length is the same then fair play it’s just the mounting to be adjusted and the propshaft spline
I converted my Auto to a type 9 and the auto two piece propshaft fitted fine. Mounting wise, i think you will need to remove and reweld your existing mounts or use a Capri crossmember and bolt up through the floor pan.

The Xflow and the pinto bloc are not equal in length, so it could had a little difference where the box sits.
When I fit my xflow with a rocket 4 I had to adapt a little bit the gearbox mount, enlarge the mounting holes for the bolts.
Ok, I didn't noticed that the rear part is the same dimension.
Why did I had to adjust the support... strange.
