Mk2 Struts (non RS) gland nut removal help...

I'm trying desperately to get the gland (the nut atop the insert in the tube)

Both left and right are locked in so tight I can't budge them at all. I've tried pipe pliers, chain, hammer and chisel, clamping them in a vice and trying to spin the strut, heat, freezing... All I've done is chew the aluminium of the nut up so much I think it's fooked. Currently I've got one sitting in brake fluid. I have no other ideas other than (carefully) cutting them off... But then what? My hands are black and purple with bruises from trying to remove them.

    Late reply I know...

Yes I got them off. Brake fluid then a soldering hot air gun (400 degrees C air) then a hammer and drift did the trick. It was a hard slog.
