Twin Cam anti roll bar issues

Has anyone had issues fitting the Motorsport Tools Twin Cam anti roll bar? I believe I have the correct brackets on my Mk1 for it to fit, although without a comparison to a standard item I can't confirm this. The angle as it enters the TCA is vastly different.

Any help greatly appreciated before I burn the car to the ground!

Are you sure you have the TCA's on the right sides?

I think its the front to back length that is the main difference - with corresponding brackets making up the difference - approx. angle of threaded bar should be similar. It looks like there's a lot of thread on your adjustable tca's do they need winding in a bit?

And as long as both the angles match as shown then you may have to use ratchet strap etc to get the bar into tca.

Also when I was building my mk1 with adjustable tca's - even when they were wound fully in and at their shortest - they were still the same length as a standard tca - so the only adjustability was to make them longer than standard tca's and no shorter. Do you have a standard tca to compare the lengths?

Or is it just a really bad rollbar?

Thanks all TCA are the right way round...........first thing I checked as I can be a bit radom.

I have wound the TCA out as that was the only way I could get the bar in, I will try and take a better picture of the angle, although I can shorten it on the adjustment once in.

It also seems to pull the TCA quite a a way forward.

    Thanks Dom

They do. I think the idea is under heavy braking and roll bar flexis back the wheels end up in the right spot.

A proper twin cam roll bar is a pig to fit. I need a ratchet strap to pull mine in. So much so I am going to tension strut hopefully easier to fit.

That's what I ended up doing with mine - tension kit so much easier than trying to get a rollbar in - used to scare the shit out of me with the ratchet straps lol.

Re: Twin Cam anti roll bar issues

    Thanks everyone

I am going to get a ratchet strap on the B*&^%dY thing as suggested and see were it all ends up. It just doesn't feel quite right so I will post a picture if I get it fully bolted up.

I have a feeling I am going to end up ditching the lot and going to compression or tension struts!

Not a good day as after getting frustrated with this I thought I would put the headlights together.....................look out for an up and coming thread on why they dont go together.

    Thanks for everyones input

Re: Twin Cam anti roll bar issues

You first need to get the TCA's wound in like Mex says to something like the std ones. Then you are best to start with the TCA's in the level plane position and go from there. If the anti roll bar's to wide to go into the sleeves it can be closed up with the aid of a rachet strap. If the bars too narrow try moving the Tca's either up or down to see if the bar aligns They can be quite a pig to fit so plenty of patience is required.

You need the correct anti roll bar to chassis mounts for the TC anti roll bar otherwise the wheels will be too far forward without the proper ones. Sometimes the weld on ones are better because you can position them to your desired position. Ideally you need the car on a level floor and a castor gauge on the front struts to establish the correct castor. Minor adjustments can be altered with washers where the bar goes through the outter Tca bush, however this means removing the bar from the arms again.

    Thanks all

Well with the aid of a ratchet, and a lot of cursing and swearing I did manage to get it located.

However not really happy with it so I am going to take it all out and go with a tension strut kit
