Fitting alloy rad and fan

Hi putting alloy rad in my mk2 mex having to put fan between grill and rad as not enough room with pinto.is it the norm to cut out the centre support thats in the way to make space to fit?

I fitted an alloy rad with a push fan , between grill and rad ,
i just squeezed it in there , and bent the bent the centre support out a bit
