What radiator has everyone used in a mk1 Escort with their duratec?
I've got a retroford one in my mk2 but they should fit a mk1 too with a bit of fettling i think:

Beware if using a Retroford one - they are designed for mounting into a 'normal' escort NOT an RS which has the mounting plates on the rad backside - I know this how ? LOL!
The Retro Ford large header rad now comes with brackets that allow fitting for both standard, and RS Radiator mounting.
im using a holden Gemini radiator. the Tx gemini i think...
its not a straight fit but doesnt take much modification to get it in there and the inlet/outlet are on the correct side.
Anyone found premade radiator hoses for a duratec mk2?
though this might be the best place to ask. Does anyone use an expansion tank and are they necessary ? I have loked at pics on the net and hardly anyone seems to have one in the engine bay in an escort .

I've never had a problem using the uploader, so I can't really understand why people don't just use that.
The site is using pretty old software and the uploader is a bit decrepit with its size / resolution limits - I know why its so, but doesn't help a forum to thrive! I've tried posting using the uploader and having to get a reasonable size photo down to sub 140kb / or stamp size I just gave up!
i always used a program called pix resizer ( or similar name) v.easy. i cannot see the above (laptop)
That's a good looking engine bay - very nice!
it's had some improvements.
do you use an expansion tank, I can't see one ? I couldn't see one on your build (manual) thread.

Or fill it up to below the neck and let it overflow whilst running - it will expel what it doesn't require and reach equilibrium.
thanks guys that's pretty much how i started thinking. Then read on the internet and started to overthink it. As the duratec has 2 outlets around the thermostat I have just blanked these i assume they are just for quick warm etc. Once the thermostat opens it should just warm up evenly i expect. I have ran a few older engines like this and never had an issue.
With regards to the original question i am using my pinto rad which was re-cored with a more efficient core. I will be running this backwards to save moving the outlets. 2 x 90 degree bends with an alloy joiner for the hot side and a 135 degree bend and a trimmed 90 degree bend and joiner fits perfect for the cold side.
I will be fitting an accurate temp gauge as well to see how it works.
One thing i'll say about blocking the two ports below the thermostat - once done they will be no circulation through the block until the stat opens so pump may cavitate and there could be hot spots created - may be minor but I wouldn't do it!
thanks again, guys i have the retroford water rail and i think i need to connect the bypass outlet which i believe to be the steel one on top of the block not the plastic one. to the retroford outlet on the bottom of the water rail.
This apparently flows whilst the thermostat is closed and then gets blocked when the stat opens.
