Engine block (& head) paint options for long life of good looks.

    Hi all.

I did my research a long time ago on this and settled for high temp engine paint in aerosol cans. In Germany the best I could get (easily) was dupli-color in ford blue.

Now its on.... Im not keen. It's matt which will attract dirt and where I have had to trim it back for a gasket I forgot, it's SUPER thin and I suspect like cheap exhaust paint will burn off in seconds.

It's proper engine paint but I want another option. I want hard wearing gloss and probably brush on as I think spray will always be too thin.

Hammerite? Brake caliper lacquer? (the 2k type). What do HPE do their in? Their website shows a nice glossy grey finish. I would prefer blue or even light green like in the Burton catalogue (which is hammer finish)

I know it's a bit of a "Duh Fred" but there are a lot of options and so far I suspect quite a few of them are number 2s.

    Cheers fellas.

    Stay safe.

Car Plan Engine Lacquer in Blue (which imo is a nice bright blue)
Has always been my preferred choice of Engine paint.

Always used Hammerite, never had any real issues. It's gets a little blackened around the exhaust ports eventually, but generally I've always been happy with it.

I’ve always used black smoothite with no issues

Thanks chaps. I've noted your recommendations and will hunt down some suitable paint.

my preference is hammerite, the hammered sort, but i thin it down a bit, that way when you paint in on cast iron it looks like the cast finish only coloured

I've been using Levis, "anti rost in color" for a very long time, usual in black but there are more colors. 2 layers with brush and sticks on it forever. I had many engines coming back in over winter and paint was always still 100% for the next season.

Not sure you got this in Germany but in Belgium we got HUBO shops. They sell the Levis paint but also HUBO's own brand of "anti rost in color". It's the same quality but half the price.

I know Hammerite is very good, been using it also but this is better and also easier to paint
