Mk1 escort - Project Bruno

Hi All,
Bought the car a year ago from Portugal.(from a guy called Bruno) ....but the start of the hard work..!
Started life as an 1100 which I have now stripped down and had blasted. Kinda shocked at what came back from blasters and the amount of body work that is needed. Found it very hard to get anyone to take it on so bit the bullet and bought me first welder.! Plan is to learn how to weld and and fix up shell slowly, first job being a rollover spit. Got 1600 Xflow which is currently being built for me to include 244 cam, race head and 40's + other usual bits from Burton.

Hi All. Needs a lota a work this shell
This is my current list.
New Mexico wing
Front panel and inner cross member
Both A panels
Full floor pan (including inner sills, seat rails etc)
2 outer sills
Radiator support panel.
Rear scuttle panel.
Inner tank well and spare wheel
Both rear inner arches.
Both rear outer arches.
2 sill infills left + right.
Front chassis section where turns up bulkhead.
Back panel.
Both inner and outer pillar.
2 inner sills.
strut top Strengtheners
Repair section under the heater bowl.
And a rear quarter panel full of filler that not sure what to do wit it.

It's a bit daunting as never really done any bodywork and only bought welder 2 months ago... But Bruno is now airborne on the jig that I made so that's a small victory for me..and first step. What do I do now.. 😁
I'm wondering what to do first or in what sequence?

Started on floor. Plan to do floor and chassis rails first.. Then sills and A posts.

Bit more cutting today and recovering some bits. What are peoples opinion on fitting full floor or just from rear seat bracket forward as floor not bad behind bracket. Also on the front chassis legs do they look repairable or replace?

Few bits done over the weekend. Cut out bits on Swan neck and skin off A post. Post itself looks ok. Looking to make repair section for chassis swan neck. Looks like will have to make up bender. Anyone do this repair before?

Made a bender over weekend but struggling to fine right way to repair chassis swan neck. Tried to bend half pieces but not really workin. Plan B was to bend U piece and cut down to fit and weld in like 1st pic.. Any thoughts on this method.?

Made bita progress on chassis rail over last while. Thanks to Alan Ganley for swan neck cutouts as was proving real pain to try and make them myself. Any comments or advice welcome

Bit of an update. Got chassis legs finished eventually and epoxy primed. Went on to make jig to get shell off rollover and back on ground again. Next step is floor so any advice welcome. Plan was to test fit and mark chassis lines. Remove and drill chassis holes and prime chassis area. Refit, clean out holes and plug weld.

Sounds like a fun project for you! We'll just finish installing the suspension kit and fuel rims on the current pick up truck project and we'll start working on the MK2 project. Enjoy your progress.

Collect few panels today and tried them on for size. Great to see few holes filled and that beautiful front grill lookin at me again after a long long time. 😁

Bit more done over last while. A post finished. Removed black paint from inside sills and epoxy them and seat Cross members. Fitted seat Cross members and test fitted dashboard panel and top bulkhead. Fits OK with wee captive nut for screw for dash panel. Great to see dash in but my 6 Dial doesn't fit? Needs a cut maybe?

Sills done at long last. Time to move onto phase 2, front end. Upper and lower bulkhead next.

More progress over last few weeks. Test fit front end before plug welding upper bulk head in place. Getting there slowly. 😁 Wings and bonnet next and gaps, gaps gaps.
