    Gearbox Mounting Holes

    Hi.

    I am contemplating replacing a X/Flow with a 2 Litre Zetec/Duratec.

Currently I have a 2000E Gearbox and wondered if the bellhousing bolt holes are the same or will I need an alternative bellhousing or swap to a Mk9 gearbox

Zetec has the same bolt pattern. Duratec different.

So is an st170 a Duratec really, or a Zetec with the vvti and a slightly different top end.
As we've just bolted a type 9 to the back of an st170 in the last 2 days without any trouble, well other than the starter anyway.

st170 is an improved zetec which ford confusingly badged as a duratec, but it actually has nothing in common with a duratec

Okay, so I thought it was a Zetec anyway, but hadn't necessarilly considered it was improved.

Something I noticed the OP said in the original post was he said he wanted to use a Mk9 gearbox, which I suppose we all just knew he meant Type 9.

2000e has the same bolt pattern as a type 9 on the engine side, but I could not say how it bolts to a zetec and what flywheel. I would imagine it would be similar to a type 9 except spline size on the input shaft. 2000e has a different bolt pattern on the gearox end if that makes a difference so it will not bolt to say a rs2000 alloy bellhousing. Personally i am not sure how strong a box it would be behind a zetec. The strongest twin cams probably give 170 ish bhp and they probably use trick boxes with uprated gears etc that is pretty easy for a zetec so i bet it could mince a 2000e easily. For ease go type 9 and sell the 2000e.

Duratec is a totally different bolt pattern so it's mazda gearbox or bellhousing to type 9 although there are possibly other japanese boxes that could be adapted.
