Correct me if I’m wrong but I always thought they were 8 and 10 thou cold

Yes so did I, so I had a look in the Haynes Manual for the RS 2000 and that's the figures they quoted. Either way I don't think they would be far out.

Ok, I can get a 15 thou in some and there's still slack. The markings on the camshaft are EP 26 and D-1 and Made in USA.

So.......... they need adjusting! Even aftermarket cams don't stray too far from OEM specs.

OK, adjusted to 10 thou ex. and 8 thou in., was still running like a bag of shit so I went back to basics. Blew out carb jets twin 40 DCOEs and checked firing order, found 1 & 2 plug leads had been transposed. Fek, an easy fix but wish I'd started there before. Running much better but still a bit ropey, hopefully this will improve with further tuning and use (been off the road since 2002). At least I got to check the oil delivery pipe was spraying onto the cam lobes. Went for a short drive successfully (except a plug lead coming adrift) and next job will be new tyres as these are like driving on squares.
