Very nice!
I normally whack some duct tape over the holes on the back of the bellhousing.
Not a massive fan of the seats but they look top notch quality....what's the story behind them? Do tell!

Well done on getting it running!
The upholstery work on the seats looks fantastic, the colour isn't to my taste but then again it's not my car!

Really, it would take 4ever! It involves at least 6 near misses on ebay (who the f##k invented sniping?) a pair of GRP seats that could crush yr spine, 1 win on the bay (v cheap) but then could not get a matched pair (the material comes from Germany and it was disscontinued 5 yrs ago), then looking for seats to recon, couple bought were wrong,..... then got a pair and when stripped down the frames were rusty,... finally got these Fiesta Recaros & stripped down, then trim guy had a problem with leather supply only the cream on shelf (at this point i would have accepted pink!) wanted something different from the norm black anyhow,... then halfway through embroidary the 'stitchin guy' had an emergency op in hospital, literally dragged out and back onto machine!! Then covered in 2 days and sent on nx day carrier. Phew! 4 months later.......
Now ive got to figure out how to mount the bloody things???......... F##k it, think im going to put some stickers on somewhere...
The last time I saw cream seats in a silver car was in a Bentley
Trust me its no Bentley, more Dent-ley
Can anyone tell me how and where to mount these? Dont seem to have any holes is correct place! Is there any more up-to-date solutions? Ta in advance.
They go where you've got the black rubber bungs in the photos, one on each side of the heater plenum.
A better / more modern solution would be washer jets in the bonnet - early cars actually had one in the middle - but that might look a bit modern.
Or you could run tubing up to the wiper arms like the rally cars do.

Defo going up the wiper arms as you say, anyone got photos or trick ways of doing?
I've seen it done with a piece of washer jet tubing cable tied to the arm, with the end bunged up and little holes drilled along the length to give the spray.
A more expensive way of doing it would be this

Pug 405s, merc sprinters etc used a similar system I believe

Having problems mounting my bently seats! Been messin with alloy box section and plastic blocks but not happy, so lazer cut these:
Made some little 'horse-shoe' widgets to clamp them in, with M8 bolts. Bit fiddly but better then previous designs! Can adjust to the side to mount roll-cage side bars. Have a little adjustment forward, but designed to my position really.
Been an issue for a while, but project back on track now!!
Seemed to be dissapearing into a mountain of crap and car parts so spent Sat morning sorting out space. Not quite Maclaren but sooo much easier to work now.
Fixed fuel line with P clips and foam padding. Lifted up from body so can flex if required without clattering!
Brake bias adjuster fitted. Made nylon 'fat' washer to pack away from dash and take up thread length.
After MUCH searching and making poorly working prototypes,.... settled for Storm Washers from Demon Tweeks in the end. Were a little large for wiper arms so wrapped some self-amagamating tape on first. Fits nice with pipe running through spring!
Removed rear slipper springs and putting coil springs back over rear dampeners. Cleaned and painted bottoms while off.
OK,... looks better now and can adjust suspension to suit,.... however even with the 6 link there is nothing stopping the axle fully dropping down now? How can i support the rear axle in the unlikely even the back end becomes air-born??
Moved the ugly 'fan control' solenoids from engine bay to passenger footwell, looks better. Now re-wiring and trying to do it without drilling any more holes in the bulkhead!
6 point came with car, just fitted to see what it looks like (only have one!). Want black really but not sure? Is very toooight, mummm?
The shocks will stop the axle drooping too far if you catch some air mate

Need to retain the shoulder harnesses? Safety Devices make a 'Harness Bar' for the Mini, but not Escort! Went to Ford Fair on Sun and saw most usual poitions people drill the floors to mount the harnesses, didnt really like those 'low' positions. Parcel shelf is better position, but after checking out structure is no where near strong enough to mount seat bealts, even with 100mm spreader plates seems very weak! Was then thinking about making a 'bolt in' harness bar??
After much pondering and not getting anywhere decided to make this:
Ok for Street and Hillclimbs? Enjoyed making from scratch anyhow!!
fooking genious pal top mod mate
Think they are sellable cause i still have 'lots' of tube left lol,... 35mm thick wall seamless!
Sent harness-bar to powder coaters (black) then re-fitted.
Alloy bonnet hinges fitted:

Have got 'throttle cable drag' nothing wrong with linkage but very stiff to pull cables, have lubricated with proper piece of kit (always a problem on Karts), however still the same! Been looking for low-friction or nylon-lined throttle cables without much joy. Any ideas?
nova clutch cable????
CAD'd this up last week, delivered today from lazer cutters in 2.5mm alloy! Polished up, drilled out fitting holes, extended Ignition hole (as forgot on drawing), fitted new fuse holders (added an extra one just incase), transferred switch gear over using SS bolts where possible. Bolted into position (loosely for now) to check. Had extra switch holes in for symetry, poss furure switches and/or circuit breakers. Should have enough space for fire extinguisher pull later? Alloy MIG welded back folds as TIG out of action, all on inside though so not too bad? Well chuffed with 1st attempt, and much lighter than steel one that was in!
Excellent progress, keep it up!
Out of interest what is the little display for on the centre console?
Think i'm gonna need some alloy bonnet hinges too because they look rather nice
A man who asks is a fool for five minutes. A man who never asks is a fool for life.
Thanks for the positive,.... i'm even dreaming in Mk1 now (dry dreams only at the moment lol).
The little display is a 50V / 200A blue screen read out from: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/110905989645
(happy buyers stores) only about £13 delivered. Due to my high amp draw of fans i need to know how much juice is left!
They are so cheap, and was that impressed have fitted to all our works vans to monitor power draw,...
Hinges from Jon : JonMBetts@aol.com hot off the press, he's only just made 1st batch!
Anyone know where i can get one of these bolts for Mk1 Escort door lock??

Re-set rear spring position,.... turned out a little low!
Brought in a proffesional team to help re-build with slipper spings (well my 8yr old son lol).
Used new bolts, was a bugger to hold nylocks, used a range of short and 'ground up' spanners.
Had all linkages off to fit rubber boots,.... either need to be Derrin Brown or have fingers like a JCB,... failed miserably
Took the opportunity to clean up and bolt back together. Will never see a dirt road anyhow!!
Then had another day fiddling with suspension,.... these pics were half way through.
More help from mate, trying to keep the smoke in the wires!! Many thanks for the black-magic Paulie
I can understand now why the Victorians put them to work so young,... such usefull little hands, been tring to get in there for weeks
Stripped, cleaned, repaired and re-fitted heater vents. Flushed 40 years of out of the pipes,... wouldn't want to breathe that lot in yak!
The rubber rose joint covers are tight but they are do-able - try putting them in boiling water for a couple of minutes before fitting.
They won't last long without covers even under normal road use, believe me!
