These photos are out of sequence and don't do the pain and sweat justice,... When i 1st took slipper springs off spent 3 evenings making special tools and widgets to lock the nylocks off. They were solid with threadlock, the threads had been stretched, and couldn't hold nuts,... in the end had to saw through the bolts what a mission. Paul drew the short straw and tackled the inside bolts,..... was laughing too much to take a decent shot

See defeated bolt in last photo,... 3 days!!

Was very restrained at Ford-Fair, only purchase was new rear quarter rubbers from the nice man at Essex Trim!

Big Jay helped with the fitting (ex Auto-glass guy),... was like Tommy Cooper,... "Watch this, glass, rope,..rope, glass trick",.... I think the 2nd one was fitted in less than 20 seconds!! Impressive but didn't make me feel very confident about security, the old glass came out in 2 seconds.

If the tight corners pop up, use a hairdrier (hot-gun is too hot) switching between warm and cold air, pushing gently down with blunt corner of scriber, after 3 or 4 cycles the rubber settles in nicely.

Updates for this week: Not started engine for a couple of months, tried on Wed and she wasnt happy. After 2 hrs cleaning fuel lines and dirty fuel out of carbs and cleaning unburnt fuel out of the engine, realised it was the timing out!! Used timing strobe and set up dizzy to 31 degrees. Exhaust got so hot after 10 mins was nearly orange hot, just under 280 degrees C,... and managed to melt strobe pick up,... had to cut it off doh

When running the engine to set up timing, the exhaust gases were blowing inside the car, and comming up through gear change shroud (a lot). so stripped off and remembered cut out had not been painted and gear change was not bolted correctly! Cleaned back and painted steel, re-mounted gear change with correct length bolts.

Took out seats and floor plates, cleaned paint and cut heat shield material. Lots of trials, sharp knife/scissors and Tea later!

Modded gear change shroud with soft hammer to suit tunnel shape better, sealed in with dense foam strips and bolted back in, gas cannot come through now (hopefully).

Removed and extended breather on oil-expansion tank. Plummed to down to below the rad so any fumes should stay outside and less risk of blowing back inside car. Also extended SPA Coil pick up wire (very fine) about 12" so can be routed down the R/H side with other cables.

Next job is to wrap the exhaust manifold, wasnt going to bother but after seeing it nearly turn orange think it wise. Not sure if I can do it without removing manifold?

If the manifold is getting that hot there's something wrong with the fuelling or ignition timing mate, get that sorted first!

Heat shield to prevent fire damage from the carbs? Are you serious? How about sorting it out the right way? There should never be an "odd firepop" from the trumpets in any situation if the carbs are even close to correct tune.

Also if the exhaust manifold heats up as you say AND without any load, I would say you have some serious issues to solve before any roadtesting.

Oooo i feel like iv'e been told off! She's purring like a kitten now, temp much better and no 'pops'! Will still put the wrap on the exhaust as it looks good and paint has already burned off. There was already heat shield material at the back of carbs for when the previous (monster motor) was fitted, just in the wrong place now for the webers, so squared off nicely!

Heat-wrap sorted this week, recommend wearing gloves though is not nice stuff on yr skin! When 1st wrap on, i held with tape until all nice and tight, then wire lock all and pull tape off. Have a seperate heat shield for clutch cable somewhere to put on, double wrapped down that area though just in case.

Thanks for that mate, yes always use stainless 0.6mm to get into the knooks and crannies of fiddly bits. Had lots of practice on the Kart, if things fall off you dont finish the race, V frustrating!!

Making a couple of brackets to mount the engine bay nozzles. Will also support the tube with P clips bolted through slam-panel (just tapped out to M6). Painted the brackets and still wet so will photo when dry and mounted properly!

Picked this thread for tonights reading and just finished it, car looks great mate and like that you make up all your bits.

Couple of things though, your kids legs are under the car with a budget jack on the diff and no axle stands, and you didn't wet the exhaust wrap before fitting it, ive seen it sag as you cant get it as tight on as you can when it's wet.

Don't take my comments in a bad way, they aren't said in one

Thanks for comments, i try and make as much as possible which is all part of the fun (or therapy) lol.

Yes next time i'm wrapping it will be dripping wet first, in the old days of wrapping our Kart exhaust with Asbestos cloth is was much easier (dissragarding the future canser)!

Oooo No, I ALWAYS use axel stands mate, i have 6 of them as someones always borrowing 1 at work,... not so much worried about the boy,... but his Mom would kill me

Thanks for the +Ve comments guys, have been struggling with 'build time' for a couple of weeks, and recent jobs on the car have required some deep thought,... just when the grey matter seems to be eluding me! Designing and making the bits is what its all about for me, and the fact that its my fav car the Mk1 Ezzy! (i really hate drilling holes in her though)....
