    Engine i,d

    Mornng folkes
    Can anyone tell me what, n e d stands for above my engine number.
    I'm guessing ne is for rs2 what does the d represent ?

    I assume this is a Mk2 Escort - NE is code for 2.0L engine, D signifies Automatic ! ! ! - see here.......

    A photo might help and actually telling us what the enigne is. X/flow/Pinto/Bda/zetec


    I'm assuming it's a pinto but a bit more of a clue would be helpfull.

    another question would also by why? i see it with all sorts of engines, everyone want to know about engine numbers thinking they might have something special, 99.99999999999999999999999999999999999999% of the time theres nothing special

    Appologies for being lazy just thought you would know by the ne bit,
    The engine came.out of a genuine rs2000 mk1.
    Strange it would have an auto.stamp.on it.
    what should it read for a manual..

    My guess is that the D in NED is actually not a D but a 5. Or something else just not a D.

    std HC versions prefix NE , inj engines differ from NE

    • 1973–1980 Ford Escort RS2000 (engine codes NEA, NE)
    • 1974–1982 Ford Taunus / Ford Cortina (engine codes NEG, NER)
    • 1975–1985 Ford Capri (engine codes NEE, NEN)
    • 1973–1984 Ford Granada (engine codes NEB, NEH, NEK)
    • 1983–1989 Ford Sierra (engine codes NES, NET, NEJ, NE5)
    • 1985–1989 Ford Granada and Ford Scorpio (engine code NEL, NER, NE4)
    • 1971–1974 Ford Pinto
