Cut out or treat pitted metal?

Just starting the process of sanding back project Esky to bare metal. Some areas sand back to nice clean metal while others have quite a bit of pitting. Some of these areas still feel bice and solid.

So would you cut out and replace or treat the pitted metal, and ifso, with what?

Heres a couple example photos. The second photo isnt pitting just black in areas. Thanks a lot in advance.

The above code is your Markup code:- cut

There used to be a good metal treatment for areas like this - rust pits, I can't remember its name but it chemically changes rust / iron oxide, black like when you blacken steel for gun barrels and tooling, then just fill and finish over knowing you weren't 'burying' rust. Just looked on line the name 'Krust' rings a bell?

Fertan is another good one. But some people don't like it because it has to be rinsed with water. "Water" = Rust.
