Escort mk2 alternator wiring question

Hi,

I am changing the alternator on my mk2 escort and noticed that the 3 wires on the wiring loom plug give 2 times direct feed from battery (the 2 red wires) and one wire goes to the bulb light (I suppose).

I was always under the impression that one wire should come from the ignition feed...

Can anyone advice me one this one?

Does this affect my alternator? Can I simply connect it? Is my wiring loom incorrect?

Solved -> just check my old alternator and noticed it had B+ on the outer connector.

Ruud, both wires! And the wire to the dash-lamp should come from after the ignition-switch, not direct from battery +.

I used this kit from Burton, support is well made but the alternator is not what I expected.
The first failed, repaired, the second blowed up, so I moved to a Mondeo MK2 one, which is bigger but seems to be more robust and produce 90A.

Regarding the Brise example above - 25mm2 cable is a 'bit' extreme for an alternator IMO - unless it is actually putting out 200+ amps?

I cannot get the alternator to work (I think). I've done a simple test:
1. Connect the loom connector that goes to the dash light (blue wire in scheme) directly to earth
2. Turn ignition on
3. Dash light goes on!



1a. Connect the loom connector that goes to the dash light (blue wire in scheme) to the L connector on the alternator
2a. Turn ignition on
3a. Dash light does not goes on!



I would say the dash light goes on this way (creating earth via dynamo) or am I wrong?

werkt allemaal niet... volgens mij is de dynamo defect.
Dynamo maakt prima aarde btw.

Heb al de mogelijke combi's D+ D- B+ geprobeerd, tevergeefs. Dju...
