    Duratec oil pump

Time has gone by but lockdown has provided an opportunity to complete the Duratec build.
As a matter of course I would normally change the oil pump for a new one but have read that the 2.3 pump has higher flow so is this an option for a 2.0l engine?
i note that the 2.3 pump has a different pickup flange angle however I am fitting a Tiger Racing cast short sump so will be cutting the pickup anyway.
So do I need a high flow pump or would a new standard pump be ok, I am nervous because the engine ran a bearing and Duratec are known for doing big end bearing No.4, mine did 2 bearings

    Re: Duratec oil pump

I think the failure of Duratec bearings is more likely due to oil starvatin due to a bad sump system.
I use a standard 2.0l type oil pump with my own dry-sump system on a 300 HP race engine, to 7,800 RPM, and ran 5 full race seasons on the same bearings. Not a sign of stress on any bearing shells or valve train etc. proving the 2.0l pump has enough capacity.
I make dry-sumps to suit both 2.0 and 2.3 type pumps anyway.
I believe the larger capacity pump was introduced to cover the extra oiling for the Duratecs with VVT and balance shafts. Since most people remove the balance shafts for competition, the higher capacity pump is not necessary.

    Re: Duratec oil pump

I managed to get a 2.3 pump with new plastic pickup for the price of a 2.0L.
I’m fitting a short ally sump which has some baffles in it. The Duratec is going in a very low kitcar Thus the need for a short sump, was £295 from Tiger racing
