    Which CWP ratio '

I boys.I need an advice for my Escort mk2 built for italian rally. My car it's 1.6 x-flow whit about 140 bhp. Gearbox it's type 2 whith Quaife gear 1st 2.500 2nd 1.640 3rd 1.220 and 4th 1.000. Rear axle it's Capri english axle 4,4:1. My indecision is: fit 4,9:1 or 5,1:1 ratio ????? Now I run whit 175/60/13 or 185/60/13. Any advice??????

The gearbox you have seems to have the Quaife Clubman ratios which has a gap between second and third gear, ask me how I know that, because I had one in an Escort Twink in 1982. I also ran with 4.44 diff ratio before changing to a 4.1 when we went from 70 to 60 profile tyres.

Why are you wanting to lower the diff ratio, to gain more acceleration? If you aren't carefull you'll under gear the car and have next to no top end speed unless you are reving the engine to 8000 rpm+.

In my country, rally stage are very hard for my little 1.6 x-flow..... Stage have a lot of airpin bends and road with steep slope. I drive always in 2nd and 3rd but I hardly ever use the 4th.......

If that's the case you might be better off trying a 5.1 ratio and see how it goes.

Mettendo max rev a 7000 giri,
    con la 5.1 la prima la tiri ai 57, la 2 agli 87, la 3 ai 117 e la 4 ai 143
    con la 4.9 non cambia tanto, la prima ai 59, 2 ai 91, 3 ai 122 e 4 ai 150

ps: sorry for the italian, but it's easier for both of us.
