    Wet Sump

    Just looking for some opinions,

Im planning on building a 2.0 duratec to be used in my road rally spec mk2. it will also be used on the odd stage event, but mostly stages. But by this time there is a fair chance i will be getting a built engine by someone such as paul gardner

The engine itself is going to be fairly basic - rods, pistons, cams, springs, standard unported head and the usual tensioner and keyway mods. so probably only looking at around 200bhp on a mx5 inlet manifold(due to regs).

Ive spoke to a few local lads and they've recommended i go down the dry sump route just for reassurance. Which I completely understand. But they are also coming from pinto backgrounds which ive herd do have oil issues with wet sump

    so few questions:

What are the duratec wet sumps like? Ive seen that retro ford, sbd, burton and dunnell all do one that look very similair if not eaxct the same. are they all? Is one better than the other?

Do duratec's suffer from oil starvation?

    Is a Dry sump needed?

    Thanks

if anything, i would say a duratec suffers more oil related bottom end issues than a pinto!

one major plus point to dry sumping one is its a very tall engine

    I agree
The pinto has less issues than the Duratec

If you do stay wet sump
    Stay away from the cosworth/Caterham
Kit as they are not as great as they should be

Caterhams use a coswortrh kit that has an internal pump to avoid any issues with the external belt getting damaged and the catastrophic results that could cause!

There's one on ebay just now actually (not mine), for about 750 i think. I seriously thought about it for my mk2 build but as it's just a fun road car I went for a wet sump (the retroford one, from motorsport tools).

Cheers, yeah that looks like the same idea - internal pump. Good price too!

    Re: Wet Sump

    When I was at pace
    We had dealing with customers
    That had the cosworth kit
Hence I have seen the damage that occurred

    Titans nop
    Turbo/s nop
    Sbd is titans
Pace is not the same as it was
But I have not had any dealings with
    The new pace stuff

    Opi is good lol
But to busy to take new orders

I can virtually guarantee that if you go to Paul Gardner he'll want to fit a dry sump system to your engine as that's what he believes works best, tried and tested. We took him a 1700 BDA engine for a major overhaul some years ago and he was adamant the engine wanted a dry sump system and a steel intstead of cast crank which added about another £2500 to the Bill.

    Re: Wet Sump

Mis-information about Duratec engine size: Yes it is a full skirt block, therefore LOOKS bigger, but its actual height from crank centreline to top of cam covers is almost identical to the Lotus twin-cam.
Overall length and width is almost identical to the Twin-cam also, I have one each of them side-by-side for comparison.
So If a Twin-cam will fit, then so will a 2.0l Duratec.
