Mmmmm. Not sure about the springing back or not in both directions, I don't think it should, but I'm happy to be proved wrong.
But all I would say is I would never have paid, just £75.00 for a new dizzy..

Just far too cheap Im afraid. I know that doesn't necessarilly help you though.

Springing one way is normal but you shouldn’t be able to turn it in the other direction, is it fully and engaged in the drive gear? Is the rotor arm fully home ? Some more info needed ???

Exactly.. Yea I know what you mean, I'm not sure whether that's right or not tbh. But I don't think it should do that.

I wrote this then never pressed the post button.

Is the rotor arm sitting in the top of the distributor shaft fully? I had similar problems starting my newly built Pinto only to find the firing ring for the Accuspark type electronic ignition wasn't letting the rotor arm lock into the top of the dizzy shaft.

Sounds to me like a timing issue rather than an air leak, are you sure you haven’t set it up 180deg out? Ie No1 & 4 at tdc but firing on 4??

Are you sure you've answered the right thread Erik?
yellowmex is still only referring to the the dizzy shaft rotating, rather than timing or air leak.

Apologies Erik, just realised you'd replied to post #6

Have you turned engine over by hand or cranked on the starter with dizzy cap off to make sure it’s rotating as it should ?

Checked rotor this morning befor work a tiny piece had broken off underneath so was not locking in place andwas turning on shaft! I take it that would cause timing issues? Il get new one today and start again

    Re: Is my dizzy f****d

Definitley, it'll mean the timing is continously moving.

That happened to mine years ago, it was missing like mad.
I ended up with a bit of insulating tape round the shaft for the rest of the day to hold the rotor arm in place.

    Glad you got it sorted.

The plug leads things is something that popped up on another thread a few days ago too.

Graham had the answer to that one...
