The I4 is a completely different engine mate, I doubt it would fit straight on.

    Re: trouble shooting

Due to my unreasonable wife (thinks the Bedroom should be decorated every 14 years weather it needs it or not) not done much to the escort for a while.
I have done an oil change, re-plumbed the cooling system, lagged the exhaust made and made a new injection loom.
It`s been left with the ECU unplugged / battery disconnected.
Got back to it the other day, it started ok but would not idle even after a good while of keeping it running ( ECU re-learning stuff).
Been trying for a few days now, it starts then drops revs to almost zero the tries to recover (most of the time stopping).
I`ve tried putting the old injection loom back on but it runs the same.
    Any ideas?

    Re: trouble shooting

The learning cycle is start allow to warm up (restarting if stalling) til the ecu fan control kicks in and out a couple of times., fast idle at about 1200 rpm and then go for a drive. The sensor that always gave me the most trouble was the water temp sensor connections going high resistance and pushing up the idle speed but if it went the other way it would supress the cold idle (unplug it while the engines running the idle should rise). Check the airflow meter plug as well.

    Re: trouble shooting

Thanx again pauln, it`s not ready for the road yet. Just wanted to prove all was ok before i relocated the ECU to under the dash n sorting the rest of the loom. So maybe just an ECU learning fault.
Think I need to press on with the build up and do the trouble shooting with it all in place.
will try the water temp sensor test though.
