escort mk1 2 door/ 4 door wing questions

Hi

I have a 4 door mk1 escort and have just bought a pair of 2 door front wings for it from a local supplier because that was all he could get and the price seemed good at £92.00 plus vat each. I also thought I would just need to trim a bit off around the door hinges to make them fit, but now find that the panel on the rear of the new wing that welds onto the A post is not as wide as the originals, so they are about a 1/4" away from the A post when offered up. I am not sure if I have some faulty wings or if this is how 2 door wings are. The wings are the Made in China ones in grey primer, I thought these were good wings but there are a lot of manufacturing marks on them which will also need attention, plus some rust coming through from under the primer!!!! Is this normal??? The wing boxes have Hadrian stickers on but I think they are no longer in business? So is it going to be more difficult to make these wings fit than I thought and if I end up having to source some 4 door wings where is best for a good deal. Any advice welcome.

4door and 2 door wings should be the same!

There was a rumor that somebody bought a batch of all the chinese "reject"/"prototype" mk1 wings and due to demand these made it onto the market. The ones we had did require tweeking around the windscreen/scuttle area.

Thanks for the reply Virgil, there is definately a difference, it is in the panel on the rear of the wing that joins it to the A panel. The 4 door has different door hinges to the 2 door making the panel at the rear of the wing a different shape. I too had heard that the original wings were not so good, but is there any way of telling which I have got, numbers appearance etc? If I knew they were the first batch I could return them. My supplier does'nt have any more in stock but has said I can return them if not happy.
