You'd drop a £300 engine straight in without checking it out or giving it a refresh?

I like to buy the whole car as salvage to try the engine, generally when I sell the rest the 300 engine has become a free engine.
We are talking 300 st engines built to modern standards, that's my point, xe or pinto would need rebuild .

Yeah fair do's, but let's face it, how many of these engines do you see being sold with complete cars you can test, most are just on eBay, you know very little about them, I know a lot if folk will throw them in but these days I'd always have to check them over.

£100 is a little pricey tbh. But still not a bad price if it comes with the carbon fibre prop?

XE Cam cover can look good, needs a bit of machining mind. Had mine air brushed.

Oh and my English axle with Tran x slipper has taken loads of abuse, my XE is running circa 235bhp

Nice job there! Very smart. Regarding the english axle i blew one with 190bhp so i upgraded to an atlas i was fed up with carrying spare shafts and worrying about breaking stuff.

I used to destroy them regularly with soft tyres and 160hp, not the strongest of things.

i was fine on road tyres as soon as i went to the stickier road tyres like you said bits everywhere, i needed an atlas and the cost was a hard bullet to bite though but it has to be done at some point even more so with the new engine. Now it's the type 9 that's the weak link! it's never ending!

I used to have an English axle on my RS with a 4:1 Lsd, it was fine on track days & road rallies - no issues. BUT when I started stage rallying with 'full commitment' & sticky tyres I was regularly breaking shafts with a 108 BHP pinto. I now have a fully floating Atlas - no broken shafts or chewed up diffs.

When I changed to 160 BHP Pinto I started breaking the Quaife straight cut type 9 (synchro rings mainly). I now have over 180 bhp & Quaife 26z 5 speed sequential dog box. its been the most reliable box for me so far but I still managed to break a tooth off a gear & snap the main shaft!

i won't be using a sequential in the mk2 i am going for an rx8 6 speed as a cheap option now, save the sequential for the mk1 the type 9 tran x just can't take the poke though.

How strong is an Rx8 box though, those engines don't make a lot of torque.....it's all revs.

looked into this and they turbo them up to 400bhp with lots of torque too, also the base layout of the box is used in the is200 lexus, honda s2000 and most important of all the s13 or s14 silvia and they have no transmission problems. So i will try it for the sake of making a mating plate and spending some time on it as i already have a box and carbon fiber prop.

Good stuff, where did you get your prop? I've always fancied one for tarmac...they don't like rocks though, a mate of mine snapped one on his GrpN Evo in the woods.

Off the rx8 with the box! Will slide onto a ford box too. I'm sure i can just change the yoke to an atlas one but time will tell. It will be on my build thread in the coming month.

Well everyday is a school day. Didn't know the RX8 could be used. By the way that's a very nice video you put on facebook going around the ring. I was convinced it was a n/a YB without reading your build thread. Well Done.

That's the plan at the moment just need to get an adaptor plate made now and it will all go together nicely. Thanks for that too, the cossie motors in N/A form are good motors but way out of my price range. so i built my engine instead

Perhaps 'Cosworth' would have made more sense, I read somewhere that the XE is a Cosworth UK design
