Electric Power Steering Kit mk2 escort

    Hi Guys,

Looking at getting power steering for my mk2 escort and looking into either the RIX system from motorsport tools or the kit from rick at mk2 mania.

any one running either of these kits and can suggest them? after speaking to motorsport tools they said the rix system isnt able to run the indicator stalks and ignition barrel is this an easy work around or?

the mk2 mania kit looks great as well and runs the indicator stalks etc but doesn't seem to be many posts or videos of people running them?

Im leaning more towards the mk2 mania kit for the ease of the indicators etc just bolting up.

Any pros and cons of both systems would be great

    cheers

Mk2 mania would be my choice he has been doing them for years and will make it fit your car as opposed to an off the shelf system

Motorsport tools etc are more for new rally builds where carbon surrounds corsa and more modern parts are used

All well and good if you can get the Corsa parts - the OP is in the land of Great jumping Rats - a small hatchback for them has a V8 with a roof chop!

We can get the corsa C stuff no worries but our corsa B was hydraulic, I would go the C but the low/bulky looking motor stands out like dogs balls!

I have a kit from Roger Hicks, Power Steering Solutions. This was designed to fit a standard road car and allow everything to go back on.

The brackets are designed to allow for the indicators, ignition and cowls to be fitted. What I have had to do though was remove the self cancelling cam and spring underneath the steering wheel, as they were tight. This made my self centering a bit too tight, which is now fine.

This was a basic one out, one in job and some additional power to the ECU. Everything is now tucked away out of sight.

I'd post some pics up for you, but it's a nightmare with resizing and then file size (apologies). If you private message me a WhatsApp number, I can bounce a few over to you.

If you want 'a ready to fit'. I hace had a 'Rix' & also one from 'Power Steering Solutions' in Wales.

In my genuine opinion the Roger Hicks ('Power Steering Solutions') is way better.
He will configure it to be discrete if you want it hidden, his come powder-coated in black as standard. He does different layouts for Mk1 & 2 escorts so they fit properly & you can specify the type of steering wheel spline you want, ie Mk1 , Mk2 or Vauxhaull etc. No cheapo dodgy electronics either

Roger does these for vintage & classics and even for OEM small volume car manufactures etc. He's well know as a rally competitor too.

that's the one sold by Burton ?

I don't know if Power Steering Solutions sold them directly as a kit ?

There is also a solution on GRP4 web site

I'm also looking for the best one to fit my car, LHD car, key and indicators... it's not easy

The power steering kits extend the steering column so the standard Escort steering column surround no longer fits.
Does anyone make an alternative steering column surround?

I have a Power Steering Solutions system and everything fits.
Only thing I've taken back off is the indicator cancelling cam, as it was too tight with the spring on.

    * Today I finished and tested the EPS on my Mk1, purchased from Power Steering Solutions. It works a treat. There were a number of modifications involved, some of my own choosing. It did take a bit of head scratching at times.

If anyone needs pointers, or maybe work-around hints I’ll help as much as I am able. I can send pictures (tho not on here as I’ve given up trying!)

The end result is well worth the effort, especially with my 2.4 turns quick rack.

My only concern now is that I’ll lose these impressive forearm muscles

Did you buy a kit to modify a std corsa C column or a complete unit ready to fit ?

Re: Electric Power Steering Kit mk2 escort

    Hi Markrally,

I bought a kit from Power Steering Solutions right here in Wales.

One of the lower outer column fastener holes was misaligned on the lower flange, and the column has no facility for an indicator/dip/main beam column switch, as these are designed for rally cars a certain amount of mods are to be expected, so I sorted that. The column shroud needed a decent amount of modification to look something like. The inner column shaft was too long at the lower end, but that’s what hacksaws are for, and I mounted the control module on the inner kick panel so the looms needed lengthening.

As previously written; a decent bit of head scratching, but well worth the effort, and maybe easier than modifying a Corsa EPS system from scratch, which are getting increasingly rare.

    All good info.

Any chance of some photo's, please? I'll pm you my email address if that's ok.

Could I be so bold as to ask you how much it cost from Power Steering Solutions Please?

I paid £515 for Power Steering Solutions, but did local pickup and exchanged my old column.
Build quality is second to none and all switches and shrouds fitted straight back on.
I leave it switched on the first setting, which is on par weight wise with our old Vaukhall Mokka.
