Just thought i would stick up a wee post showing how i converted my Wee 100e, using the type 9 box, to hydraulic clutch for the pricey sum of £12.49.
First of all, i must admit i had a Hillman imp master and slave cylinder which didnt cost me anything.
I fitted the master cylinder just below where the 100e master would be fitted and ran the hydraulic pipes to the stand alone reservoir and then to the slave.
I then made a mounting plate for the slave cylinder to bolt to the rear bellhousing just behind the clutch fork.
I then drilled the bellhousing and fitted the mounting plate, to which i also fitted the hillman imp slave cylinder.
Made a slave cylinder push rod from a dome headed high tensile steel bolt and fitted a nylock round headed nut, with the round end of the nut against the clutch fork. I left part of the bolt sticking out the front of the clutch fork, which keeps the pushrod in place. " no chance of it falling out then", lol.
fitted the stand alone reservoir, (thats the £12.49 bit), and bled the system. PERFECT!!!!. Done plenty of pumping the clutch to make sure everything was settled, checked for free play and any adjustment needed at the pedal or slave and all fine. Took her out on the roads around the estate, with plenty of gearchanges, and all is fine, smooth changes and smooth uptake of the clutch.
The reason i decided to try this out was the clutch cable system i had was very heavy and a strain on the knackered hip replacements. Plus i didnt see the point in paying neary £200 just for a slave cylinder, then having to remove the gearbox to fit it and refit the box.
All in, there was about 3 hours work in total from start to finish and, as i said, cost me £12.49.
Picks of the process and finished job.
The pics are a wee bit mixed up, but were meant to go in order of each job done.
Just need to trim and round off the edges of the mounting plate to tidy it up a little.
BUT IT WORKS PERFECTLY AND EFFORTLESSLY.
Bloody glad i checked my pics as i just noticed i have left the lower nut off my brake master.......Off to the garage!!!!
John.
