Does anyone still use standard English axle 8 inch brakes.

As per the title do people still require/use them or are they worthless now?
I have lots of sets of standard English axle 8” rear brakes complete with good backing plates.

Thinking of selling them as a job lot if anyone is interested in refurbishing them and selling them on?
    probably have around 20/30 sets
    What are your thoughts?
    thanks

not everyone uses rear discs, and as time goes on and parts become fewer whats left becomes valuable,

back in the day we would of never imagined ford steel wheels were worth anything, yet they change hands for a small fortune these days

Those that use them will generally rebuild what they have and those that haven't got 8" drums certainly won't be downgrading from 9" RS ones or Capri wide 9" set-ups. In a like for like sale, 8" against 9" guess which would be in most demand!

Nothing wrong with 8" drums, my car has them and the MOT tester is impressed with them. I believe later RS cars came with 8" drums.Even if they are worth half the price of 9" drums that's something!

Yep there will deffo be a demand for them at some point-everyone wants 9" and there's only so many to go round-and if you don't have any to rebuild what then? Like Graham says we used to throw stuff away we thought was worthless-look what's happening now. Maybe stick a few sets on Ebay with rebuild kits etc. see how they go. But I certainly wouldn't bin them or weigh them in that's for sure.

All RS models came with 9" drums. Dunno about Twin Cams they may have had 8's ?

I'd keep them without a doubt, not that my opinion means much since all the parts I've kept for the last 25 years turned out to be low value and the stuff I threw away is now worth fortunes!

I have spare sets of 8" and 9" drums, which probably explains my point above, but I won't be throwing them out!

Pretty sure MK1 RS2000 Escorts came with 8" drums. With a big heavy pinto upfront probably they were sufficient, bigger may have locked too easily?

I stand corrected - *Mk1 RS2000 did indeed have 8" rear drums but the RS1600 and Mk1 Mexico's had 9" - so work that logic out!

I think the Mk 2 RS's had 8 inch too, my Mk1 Mexico has the 9's and big old heavy boots they are too, I believe they came over from the Lotus Cortina.

    No - RS mk2's definitely used 9".

They did indeed, if my memory serves me right the drum isn't the same profile as the Mex 9", so I was assuming 8".

    Hi there,
There are Mk1 Escort, Mk2 Escort, Cortina & Anglia, as removed from cars some of the drums will require new but the units are complete.
I can count how many sets I have if you are really interested in taking the lot then hopefully agree a price?
    Happy to send you pictures

I read that this was largely to do with the German market & problems with the use of snow chains using 9 inch drums
