    Type E Rocket Box .
Two different things - its either a Type E box (as fitted to RS Escorts etc.) or a Type E box fitted with a 'Rocket Gearset' (which wasn't fitted to anything 'as std.')

As stated above, a normal Type E gearbox has wide ratios, whereas a Rocket gearbox has close ratios with 2.54:1 first gear. A Rocket gearbox is rare and expensive if you can find one. And replacement gears are like hen's teeth.

Re: Looking for a Type 4 gearbox

I do wish people would stop refering to bog standard 4 speed Cortina gearboxes by the name Rocket.

As Honky has already mentioned in his post a Rocket box was a close ratio competion gearbox with helical cut gears and was sold by Ford RS dealers only. The ratios were Homologated for Group 1 Rally cars. These gearboxes aren't to be confused with the Tran X straight cut version of this box that had the same ratios.
