    Rear callipers Mk2 escort

Brake set up on my car is bias pedal box, due, servo and discs front and back. Rear callipers are Sierra with a cable handbrake. Bled the brakes front are perfect however no rears. Rebels and fluid is coming through fine and no air in the system. Looking at previous posts is could be the master cylinder but the handbrake doesn’t work either

    any ideas

Not sure how you would have, fluid, no air, and no brakes.

I would have thought if it was something to do with the master cylinder then you wouldn't get fluid to the rear calipers either.

It’s an odd one, well bled and no air as redid them to be sure. Will have a look at the bias set up tomorrow as tried moving it to see if that was the issue but alas no

are teh calipers the right way up, ie nipples uppermost, you wont get the air out if the nipples are not topside

Nipples are topside and bled nicely with all the air out

It sounds like a pocket of air somewhere, what method of bleeding are you using and have you got a hydraulic handbrake?

Using easy bleed, cable handbrake and will give the bleeding a third go as nothing to loose.

Are you sure you plumbed in the handbrake-hydraulic-cylinder the right way?

It’s not a hydraulic handbrake it’s cable. If I manually pull the handbrake lug on the rear callipers it’s moves but piston doesn’t move. Thinking now that the pistons might be seized in the callipers as they haven’t been used in nearly a decade. Did wind them back in years ago so think it might be time to remove the callipers and have a look.

I have just been through this. Mine would wind back but didn’t work very well £15 on new seals sorted.

I used compressed air to get them out but be warned put a block of wood in the calliper as mine shot out like a missile

Your a star, will get some new seals and rebuild them. Plenty other bits and bobs to keep me busy while I wait for the seals

When you say you have no rear brakes does that mean you have got a solid pedal or is it going most of the way to floor as you have still got air in the system. Seized rear pistons on the calipers won't stop you bleeding the brakes and getting a firm pedal, infact it should be firmer with no movement in the cylinders.

If your pedalbox has been stood for a great length of time I have known the piston to stick in the cylinder not allowing it to return and in some cases the seal flicking the opposite way round, this is often identified by fluid leaking from out of the cylinder.

Pedal is solid and no fluid leaking out of the system, once I remove the Calipers I will find out if they are seized Ono, if not it will be the master cylinder

If you have a solid pedal then no air present in the system, time to investigate the rear calipers, you need to remove the pads, press the foot brake and see if the piston moves.
