    Quickshift problem

The threads on my original gear lever are knackered so I bought the rally design quickshift lever. I fitted it today however I know can’t get into reverse now. It wants to go in but it is like something is stopping it. The forks are definitely going in the right way as I checked and double checked that. The only issue I can see is that the profile is slightly different on the dog leg fork see photo. I’m going to file it a bit to match the original but wondered if anyone else had a similar issue?

    Its not a Type 9 ! ! ! A type 9 doesn't have a screw thread - they are bolted in!

Back to the OP - there is an obvious difference and maybe some filing / re-profiling will make the difference as you suggest. The original does look more robust below the notch!

I am well aware of that, (having 2 type 9's in my garage). I was just adding that on a type 9 it definitely is an issue as i have learnt the hard way ! ! ! I assume the op knows that as well having bought the gear lever.

back in the day gear stick in wrong way round was really common mistake and usually resulted in forward gears but no reverse

Yeah it’s for 4 speed. 100% definitely put it in the correct way round as I compared to how the original one went in. When it didn’t work I did try it 180 degrees around to be sure but it was even worse, I couldn’t get the gearstick over left enough to get near reverse. When it is in the correct way it will go further left then first first but not quite enough to get reverse, I’m going to try filing it to match profiles.

If it's a good quality gear stick you might find you have to nick it out with a small grindstone as the steel should be quite hard and won't file to easy but if it's an RD one it might be as soft as cheese.

These Rally Design levers are a terrible product, send it back, buy a RIX one.

Wherever you like, just don't get an RD one...we've stopped selling them because of this and other issues.

I got it from MST 3/4 weeks ago. Knowing what I know now I’d have went for the Rix one.

    Re: Quickshift problem

There is a block in tail shaft you can see it as you look into the gear lever hole
If you can lever it towards the back of the gearbox it gives you slightly more room for the slot in the gear lever to fit in

I took mine out and milled it down slightly to make reverse easier to find
Some people that auto test remove it completely so they can find reverse quicker
