Gearbox options
Hi all.
I was after the traditional Type 9 5 speed gearbox in my 1600cc mk1 Escort.
I ha e been looking and the price for a hulking pile of junk is getting insane.
In this months classic Ford there is a piece about mazda gearboxes and I can buy a whole RX8 for the price of a good type 9.
I know these bolt up to Duratecs easily but how about xflow? Does anyone make an adapter plate or combination of what allows the 6 speed to work?
Sorry if I am asking dumb questions here. I've been tinkering and working on traditional pinto/xflow/YB powered RWD ford's for so long I've lost touch with the modern twin cam options and their accessories.

Re: Gearbox options
RX8 gearbox bolts up to very little without an adapter plate unless it was supposed to in the first place. I looked into it a lot and what you get is supposedly a very good box but it is effectively a 5 speed box as first is a very short ratio. They also come with a carbon prop which is cool if you can get it modified to fit your axle of choice. They also have a hydraulic clutch but people have converted them to cable if you need to.
A far better box than the t9 everyone says (i have sold mine before fitting due to a change) but it is also a large unit so make sure it fits first. But they are supposed to very strong probably far stronger than the cross flow in front of it.
The mazda n7 bolts up to a duratec directly as it bolts to one in mazda form in the mk3 mx5.
