    MK2 Escort Heater assembly

Strange question but does anyone know the weight of a MK2 Escort Heater assembly? Wondering whether to go to all the trouble of removing it in my hillclimb car? It's not connected anyway, but I gather it's a pain to remove?

Maybe a kilo or two? Can't be that difficult to remove, especially if no water involved - a few bolts and cable clamps? Access on the other hand

think you are about right on that they are quite weighty.

I have to remove my mk1 and from the last time i think it is 4 bolts but 2 are up the back and are a bit of pain. You are probably only going to do it once though.

easy to get out , 4 bolts from memory and cable control. but you have to work upside down i think so a pain, its a few kg yes and early ones are steel if not all .

What are you going to do if it’s a wet day?

I'd be surprised if the bigger battery and alternator ended up weighing as much as the
weight removed by the heater assembly.

I know you are joking but it is serious point. On another forum i have been following a build of a lotus elan the builder takes weight to the extreme to the point of lathing down bolts and stuff. Drilling holes all over etc he's looking at grammes.

Hopefully he already has those installed and it is a win.

Great thinking.. a lot of people forget and they have problems when it gets wet.

I am also going with a heated screen but also keeping my heater.

They changed from steel to plastchousing in 77 or so, when hot and cold swapped side on the lever on the dashboard.

So with my maths that means you have room to consume about 6 litres of beer and weigh the same on an event
