Mk2 escort (non RS) lowering spring suppliers with TUV/ABE certificates

I'm stuck... Completely. For the German equivalent of an MOT any device that lowers the vehicle such as front springs and rear blocks need to have ABE certificates.

I've tried motomobil, Timms which supply the right parts but NONE are TUV approved (ABE) which surprises me as to rally these cars they need to be road legal.

Does anyone know a spring supplier that can provide such a certificate for their lowering springs or a spring maker that will get them certified (I smell an organ sale to pay for these coming)....

Cheers chaps. I'm running out of ideas.

Can't you just put it through the TUV test as standard, then fit some lowering blocks or springs afterwards.
I've just fitted some Gartrac single leaf springs to my MK2 and they are a much nicer ride than the aged original multi-leaf I removed.

I did think of that but if I get caught or have an accident I will most likely spend time behind bars. It's not like the Mot which states its valid only on the day of inspection the TUV is REALLY STRICT.

I should add. I was thinking of single leaf rear and having them decambered (right word?) to get the lowering. Can I do similar on standard fronts? Get them lower that way?

you cant decamber front springs, but even if you could shorten standard front springs surely you would be back to needing TUV approval? if yo havnt slammed it into the weeds how are they going to now the difference between a standard spring and a mildly lowered/uprated spring?

RS2000/capri struts will lower the front an 25mm from memory, 2.8i capri struts will lower it another 25mm, can you not use those after all its what ford fitted?

So 2.8i struts will lower the front 50mm? which is a sod as i have spent rather a large amount of cash on my mk2 struts (Non RS) overhaul and Gaz inserts.

H&R said they have nothing and know of no one that makes them.

If the 2.8i struts is true i may have to lose some money (i smell divorce now) and plumb for them...If fitting Capri parts doesnt invalidate the TÜV too! Its times like this i miss the UK and its MOT!

Re: Mk2 escort (non RS) lowering spring suppliers with TUV/ABE certificates

Sorry for the dual post (damn phone).

But i will add that i am still unsure on the drop i want to make. 2" sounds a lot to me and i know there are trade-offs. It may look ace but with my bulk in the drivers seat will it be scraping and bottoming out.

Anyone got any suggestions on how to decide how far to go?

Whats a 1" and 2" look like in real the real world?

I may be able to argue "Old saggy springs" for 1" hence my asking...

Not sure if they would be of use as they are for a mk1but may be worth a call.

Re: Mk2 escort (non RS) lowering spring suppliers with TUV/ABE certificates

Pics below show a 2" lowering block on old multi leaf springs and Gp1 Bilstein shocks (top line) and 1" lowering block on a single leaf standard 146ib Gartrac spring with adjustable AVO shocks (bottom line).

Car/exhaust was scraping speed bumps on the 2" drop, but is now fine at 1".

The car drives much nicer on the road with the 1" drop on the 146ib single leaf and damper rate set softer than the old Bilsteins.
