    Fuel pump size and location.

Hi guys. How are you all doing? OK so I'm nearly ready to work on the fuel system. 2.1 pinto, twin 45s and approx 180hp. I plan to install 2 pumps in the rear near the tank. Do the small cube style facet pumps work well enough to pump back to front and supply sufficient LPM ratio. I imagine fuel hose length, internal bore size and volume all come into play. I know the carbs like around a steady 4psi. But LPM must be an important number to work out. Bloody hell captain, I'm a civil engineer, no a rocket scientist.

The Pinto engine with a similar spec to yours on my Escort is fed by the same pumps as yours via a switch that can be changed from pump 1 to pump 2. Fuel pipe's 8mm internal bore. Whether the pumps are up to the job of supplying enough fuel only time will tell as the previous owner only had about 140 bhp max.

I lay un bed last night searching the net. I think u have worked out that I need a 15GPH (63LPH) pump(s) with a 3 to 6 PSI range. There's an algorithm to work out the pump size. Max hp x 0.5 ÷ 6 = GPM. And I know the carbs run about 4 PSI. I will fit one main and one back up via switches on the dash. I will ha e a pump pre filter and a carb pre filter. This i will make a filter king with regulator in the inner wing as I have on my tr6. Now let's see what this is going to cost me.

4 psi is too much. 2.5 plenty, carbs do not need much pressure, but they do need plenty of supply, if you need 4 psi to keep the float bowls full then the float valves are too small

Be careful with these 'net' calculations - many originate from the USA where quoted gallons aren't real gallons! Hell they can't spell Litres correctly most of the time. Won't make a huge difference, but will some.

Ha ha. Yeah, don't worry, I did the US gallon to liter conversion. So about 2.5 PSI is suitable. I set the pressure on the TR6 to 4. I reckoned triple webbers may need more to keep the fuel flowing. Or does it matter.

Well they have their adopted American spelling for lots of things, don't they? English is English really, but oh no, not the Americans they have to be different

Must admit I thought 4psi was too much when I read that.
