    Pinto electric fan temps

    Hi all,

I have just finished installing a 205 pinto in my mk2 Escort. It's running an airtec ally radiator with a large kenlowe fan on the front through a thermostatic switch in top of the rad. Seems to run well enough and the temp gauge goes to half way quite quickly but only just above half when running and the fan kicks in. The thermostat is an 88 degree one and the temp switch is an 88 - 79 degree item. So the fan seems to be kicking in a lot,and although the engine is hot, there are no signs of overheating. I'm thinking of getting a cooler 82 degree thermostat and upping the rad switch to a 92 - 82 degree item. That way, in theory the thermostat should open first and then the temps rise when stationary for the fan to kick in later on. Does that sound the right way to go?

correct, the fan switch needs to be a good few degrees hotter or the fan will cycle a lot. 82 stat is better for the engine anyway.

Thanks Grahame. I'll fit an 82 degree stat and use a 92 degree fan switch and see how that goes.
