Escort Rear Lower Shock Mount bush question
Hi,
Could someone kindly confirm if this shock mounting bush sleeve is part of the U bolt plate and new bushes slide over it, or whether the sleeve needs to be cut off to remove it?
It is on there so solidly it looks like its part of the actual U bolt plate.

That sleeve needs to be removed.

The steel bush is part of the rubber not the mount plate - not unusual for them to corrosion weld themselves to the pins!

Thank you both.
Its on there solid, didn't want to hack away at it and then discover it's part of the mount plate.
I guess grinder or hacksaw is the best way forward then.

Re: Escort Rear Lower Shock Mount bush question
Gently grind along its length, use a thin grinding wheel, take your time so you don’t damage the shaft you’ll see when you’re almost through the sleeve as you’ll get some rust dust and the sleeve will show a split, then with a sharp small chisel tap along the split and the sleeve will open up and drop off. It won’t take long.
If you’re a bit concerned about taking the grinder to it, try filing two flats opposite each other, soak it in a penetrating oil over night, then fasten in a bench vice on the 2 flats and give the plate a twist, it might just be enough to break it free.
Good luck

Agreed with all above, as just done this to both sides of my plates.
The rubber and sleeve is part of the old shock absorber bottom bush. If you are using these old shocks, then you will need to fit new bushes to them.
I sliced mine diagonally with a hacksaw, then opened the tube up with a chisel. Inner bolt/shaft was then dressed clean with needle file and threads cleaned up.
When I fitted the new shocks, I also put some copperslip on the inner bolt/shaft so the new sleeve would have less chance of siezing the same way.

Stand it up in vice with pin facing towards the floor.
Gently warm with oxy.act gun and it will fall off on floor. Wait for it to cool before bending to pick it up tho.

It's off, took 5 mins a side, no special tools.... A hacksaw down the length of it, photos to follow when back indoors. 👍
