Hi!
I have spent several days reading books, facebook groups and this forum but still I can't decide on correct pinto recipe for my LHD mk2 escort build - weekend/street legal track toy. I need to keep LHD brake booster, so DCOEs are out of question and IDFs are out of budget.
Looking forward to Your comments and suggestions.
My intentions:
I already have 205 engine from sierra
Lightened injection conrods
Cast pistons - keep it 2.0 or go 2.1 ? As I understand no real advantage from 2.1 on mild tune - only reason to go 2.1 is for needing to skim less off the head.
CR 10.3-10.5:1
Ashley 2" exhaust manifold
Lightened flywheel, balanced
Stock injection head with smoothed ports, will leave stock valves if they turn out to be usable
Most likely 40mm bike carbs, but there is a possibility I will need it to run on 32/36 from time to time. Was looking at Grahams instructions on how to modify 32/36 to have it running as good as possible. Plus I already have carb inlet and 32/36, still need to buy bike carbs and build a manifold for them not to foul the brake booster.
At the moment camshaft is the largest headache - I am a bit afraid to overcam it, but at the same time I would like to have the powerband of 3000-7000. I was looking at kent RL30. FR32 seems a bit too mild, FR33? Piper BP285? Although I read about it being much milder than RL30. No idea on equivalents from newman cams.
I have driven a lot of saab V4s with various tunes, a full race fulvia and various other ""fast road" cars from the period and I very much prefer higher revving engines. With saabs it is much easier, there are only 3 factory camshaft profiles and that's it With a pinto it seems much easier to make a wrong move with so many available profiles.
I want to build it as good as possible the first time, don't like redoing my own work, especially if we are talking about engine internals.
