    Lights

Mk2 / Hi, wanting to convert my square light front end to round. I am buying pattern parts so any recommendations on the quality of the ones you have bought would be appreciated. Also l am hearing some people say l can use my original headlight bowls from my square lights. Is this true and what’s involved. I know l can trust more what’s said on here. Thanks

    Hi,

Yes to confirm you can use the square headlight back bowls, BUT the round headlight back bowl has the retaining bolt hole approx 2 inches further up the front of the bowl.

When you take out the square headlight, you have to remove a single shouldered bolt bottom right hand side of the lamp unit (when viewed from the front), this bolt screws into a plastic boss that is moulded into the plastic bowl, it will have a brass tapped insert pushed into it, if you look approx 2 inch further up from this plastic boss, you will see another plastic boss, that does not have the brass insert in it, this is the boss that the retaining ring of the round type headlamps will screw into, so you will at least need to swap the brass insert from one boss to the other, I can take a picture of mine if you need me to, it is a very similar set up if your headlamp bowl is made of steel rather than plastic, basically, the square light headlamp bowls & the round light headlamp bowls are 99% the same, it is just the light unit mounting screw point is in a slightly diferent position.

I am very lucky having about 4 spare sets of original Ford round headlamps for my Escorts so can take pictures of the different bits & mountings.
