    Is this a 5 speed type 9?

Not really up to speed on my gearboxes.
Been offered a type 9 but the owner isn't sure if it's 4 or 5 speed, he sent me the attached photo but I haven't got a clue.

    Anyone help ID it please?

    Cheers po79.

you could of put up a picture from almost any other angle and i could of told you . but you either missed or cropped the really obvious bit that would show if its 4 or 5 speed,

5 speed has an alloy extension to the main case in between the iron main case and alloy tail housing

    Hi Graham,
That's the only photo he sent me. I'll ask for some better ones of the tail housing.
I knew that area was different between the two but couldn't remember how.
I also thought removing the bell housing revealed a shaft but can't remember how to tell from that either.
Not sure he'll want me asking for bits to be removed.
I'll try to get the better photos and go from there.
    Cheers Poe.

The input shaft will only tell if its from a 4 pot or a V6! The T9 box will have a clear extension between the main box and the tail housing about 50 - 60mm wide - this holds the 5th gear.

    Thanks for that,
I'm sure I've got the measurements somewhere for the different input shafts, think I'm right saying the 1.6lt and 2.0lt shafts are 150mm.
But I was meaning a shaft not viable until the bridging is removed.
That doesn't matter now as you and Graham have made identifying it easier with the alloy extension.
I'll let you know what I find out or post back if I'm still struggling.
    Cheers Poe.
