yes, but winding the engine over on the starter to get oil pressure up is the last thing a new cam wants, far better to pull the dizzy and use a drill to get pressure up.

even with jetting a fair way off, you should be able to hold around 2000rpm

Mark the dizzy before you pull it out! Prime the pump and refit dizzy, start it up

I had staring issues with a crossflow years ago ruined the camshaft!

its not so much about the oil, its taking the load off the nose of the cam lobes. with the cam turning at speed the opening ramp in the cam gets the valve train moving quickly and gives it inertia so theres less load on the nose of the cam, kind of like when you seriously over rev an engine and the valves hit the pistons because the valve train has lost contact with the cam, but not quite as extreme

Yes as long as you put the dizzy and rotor arm back in the same place, from memory the oil pump drive is a 6mm hex, i spin it up with a quarter drive extension and small socket on the end, battery drill is good enough, it doenst matter what the oil pump is i always see at least 60psi with cold 20/50

its the same hex as a std battery drill accessory as far as i remember either 1/4" or 6mm as graham says.
mark rotor arm position and dizzy position before removal and i would retime static after refitting - its only 5 min.

It needs to be a long reach socket of 1/4 drive.

6mm socket on an electric drill.
Oil pressure gauge in car also was reading pressure, but don't recall how much.
This confirmed my spray bar was all good. You can see fresh oil coming out of spray bar onto cam.
I used a sharpie marker on my Dizzy for position.

One way makes you think oil pump issues engine out total disappointment.

    The other way works.
