Lowered rack mount which steering arms.

    Hi all,

Just gauging opinion here as there is alot of debate about lowered racks bump steer etc. I have fitted a retroford lowered rack wcxm. Do you think all the different manufacturers of these lower the rack by the same. I ask as Retroford steering arms are £160 plus vat and delivery, thats £100 each. Gartrac make them for £50 each or there abouts. Will the gartrac ones be so inferior for 1/2 the price and will they line up for reducing bump steer or are the retroford ones very special ?

Going to measure the rack drop tonight to see by how much my theory is it is just a Lowered rack x member like all the others on the market

    Thanks

You can warm them up yourself & tweak them. At ride height it would be good to eye up steering drumstick with tca, need to run as near parallel.
I wou.d double check with a bumpsteer gauge.
But that is rule of thumb.

I have never used a WCXM that I bought with lowered Rack mounts, I have normally lowered the standard ones myself by approx 15mm, allowing the long type GP4 steering joint to be used on the column.

Have you tried the car on the road yet Wildo to see what the steering geometry feels like? If not find a bumpy lane with lots of undulations, you'll know then by the feel of the steering wheel as to whether or not you have bump steer. I am a big believer if problems aren't there then do go looking for them. You can save yourself a good bit of money and time aswell.

I have just done a car with lowered rack mounts and std steering arms so I can't comment on how that steers yet as I am waiting for it's 41st Birthday before it goes on the Road, once it does I'll give a full report on all aspects of it.

thanks guys, I do like to research before hand so i may not have the issue when i lower it down and actually drive it. Bending them myself never occurred to me. I assume you need to heat them to cherry red and just tweak them a bit.

I don't think you would need to get them quite cherry red, but pretty warm & a tap with an adjustometer.

When you say an adjustometer, how big an adjustometer?

    Club, sledge or slightly smaller

I suppose an awful lot depends on how you warm the steering arms up.
    Gas mark 10 = a small tapometer
Gas mark 5 = reg the sledge
Happy Christmas to one & all.
