    Oil in spark plug well.

    Hi,

Ive noticed a pool of oil forms in the number 1 spark plug well. I originally thought it was oil weeping from the filler neck or the rocker gasket but now I’m not sure as it all seems pretty dry. Would worn valve stem seals or piston rings do this?

    Thanks

you dont say which engine, im guessing x/f, and its most likely fumes being blown out the oil filler cap. stem seals will have no bearing on this, worn rings wont help. what have you got for induction and breather system?

    Hi Graham

Sorry, should have said it’s a pinto. Induction is a single 44 IDF on a one off manifold. Breather system is crank case to catch tank, filler cap to to catch tank, catch tank then has a breathable cap. Engine has done approx 6-7 rallies and some limited road miles so I’m hoping it’s not ring related, I’ll do a compression test to check.

    Thanks

ok, oil is probably leaking through the cam cover gasket and dripping off into the plug hole.

I’ve got a gasket here and a rocker cover with splash shield beneath the filler cap (current one doesn’t) so I’ll change those first off then, many thanks

Thanks, need get some brackets tacked onto cam cover to take throttle return spring as my current one does. Once that’s done I’ll change it and report back
