    Re: St170

if you try you can find running ones in a car for £500-£600, buying one that way you know you still have a good working engine, take the engine out and sell/scrap the rest and your get some money back

Shame its Cortina based, unless the OP has a Cortina, as the sump at least will need replacing and as you said - unknown/untried engine AND gearbox in this case!

With modern swaps go in with your eyes open, the engines seem to be the cheapest part it's fitting it that cost's the most. I am nearly completing a duratec swap and are probably £5k in by the time i have finished. Gearbox (mx5) was £150 and engine i got £150. Add in sump cross member throttle bodies ecu water rail propshaft list goes on and these parts add up quickly. But you do get a nice engine etc at the end with some nice power from an unstressed engine.

If you have a duratec fit that probably cost the same to install in the end. If you know it’s good

yes it is. but as there is no belt in pic. purhaps that why it looks wrong to you, i can confirm it is right as i have now fitted the belt and it tensions correctly, will get some pics up to show, thanks for the comment anyway. THIS IS NOT MY ENGINE SHOWN.

yea i could ave gone down that route , and made it easier, but as i had it all come with the engine, and my plan all along was to run power steering on my project , so i needed a PS pump

    Hi Mash.
didnt even give ME100 a thought, just that i read about ME221 System. not sure if im gona keep the vvt cams in the engine yet,
just want to get it finished and running then decide if i need more BHP , and change cams for something with more ooomph

Sorry Mate, only just spotted this. Popular thinking with the ST170 is defo keep the VVT and use it. ME100 does a really good job with VVT and if you want to upgrade to injection they flog a software update that does that too.
