pedal clearance Escort Mk1 LHD

Hi,

I have set up my Escort MK1 LHD with a bias pedal box.
The problem is, that the break pedal is curved and my car is a LHD.
Therefor is not enough clearance between break pedal and transmission tunnel to control the throttle pedal with normal shoes. I always get stuck with my foot under the break pedal, which is not realy safe.
I already asked several dealers (Motorsport-tools, Rallydesign, Burton) but they are all selling this version I already have with the curved break pedal.
Does anyone know if it's possible to change to a straight pedal and who would can modify this.
Or a producer/dealer of a suitable box for LHD Escorts?
It seems that this is only a problem in LHD cars because of the transmission tunnel.

If you are handy with a grinder, I'd say cut a shallow vee notch in the pedal shaft close to the bend so it will bend away from the throttle pedal
and then weld it / the cut back up. The rubber may be angled a bit but atleast you'll be able to get to the throttle reliably!

Thx, this will be my plan C. I don't trust in my welding-skills at all.
But if there is no suitable box on the market, it won't help doing it that way.

I have a Mk2 but use a pedal box with my old pedals (incl. throttle pedal) and have no issues with clearance.

I don't know if it's my eyes playing tricks on me but the brake pedal doesn't seem to be inline with the clutch pedal, it looks like it's towing out towards the throttle pedal. As already suggested it needs bending to the left. Aftermarket pedals are very flimsy so it shouldn't be too difficult to bend but do be careful.

No, your eyes don't playing tricks on you. I found a pic in the web where you can see better the curving of the pedal.
It seems that the Plan C (bending the pedal) will be the solution.

The steel may be flimsy but its a channel section so trying to bend it sideways will more than likely kink it and then no strength at all.

Thank you for your support guys.
I don't trust in my welding and bending skills, so I will swap my box from RD to the one from Compbrake.
Altought the Compbrake doesn't look "historic" it seems to provide the clearance what I need.
Except anyone has bad experience with Compbrake .. then I have to rethink my plan.

There's no need to go to all that expence and buy a new pedal box, just remove the pedal box and pedals and take some of the bend out of the pedal. You'll probably have to warm the pedal until it's glowing red before you bend it to prevent fractures.

You could take some measurements and bring the pedal to someone you know can weld.

for pedal box on LHD, always use a good one, RIX, or something similar. made from genuine Ford item. And use good MC, not the cheap ones
some mates had issue with RD ones.
My MK2 with large tunnel, had an issue with throttle pedal, had to grind.
That distance between your clutch and brake looks strange, but as said, you could bend it or weld it back to a better position.

Hi.
RD told me that it I have likely an old version of the break pedal (bought in 2019). In the meantime the break pedal got a redesign.
RD will have a look for a spare pedal of the new version which I can change easly.
The more I'm doing research about these pedal boxes, the more I fall in love with the one of Gartrac.
They are offering their boxes in particular either for LHD or RHD which sounds to me that they know about the clearance difficulty.
My current three plans are:
A) spare pedal from RD
B) new box from Gartrac (or Compbrake - altaugh they don't look historic)
C) bending my curved pedal

I'll keep you informed ...
