    what that module for

    Good day guys.
I have a new wiring harness for the front of my mk1 pinto escort. On installing it, everything seams all normal apart from the group of wires on the left side. I have no idea what they are for. SO i had a look at google images and see that on several cars there is a wing mounted module that i dont have. But the new harness has the wires for i presume is this module. So what is this module and do i need it? I have attached an example phot of what i think is the module i have wires for. Also the green escort is my own car showing the wires I have.

if the car is a MK1 rs2000 i guess it could be either electric cooling fan or spot lights

Wire colours would be correct for spot lamps relay - triggered off the High Beam circuit. The 'inner' Aux. lights on mk2 RS2000's are the same.

Those wires and the relay are unique to AVO Mk1’s. The set up adds the dip beam back in on main beam so that you have both filaments lit when on main beam. The headlight & dip main beam switch work as a normal car but when on main power is fed into that relay to provide a feed into the dip filament of the bulb. Red comes directly from the alternator, brown is earth (under one of the fixing screws). White is the trigger and the thick yellow is power out to the bulb. On AVO cars the relay, a Lucas 6RA, was a special fused relay, you can get replicas from eBay or from Neil fletcher racing.com.

Great info. Much appreciated. That just leaves 3 more wires. On the same side u have 3 wires coming from the loom and wrapped together. 1 large black, 1 small black and 1 large brown. Any ideas. Is this something to do with the starter. If so, they are on the wrong side and I will have to lengthen them

Not sure, I am a Mexico man. On an Rs2000 the starter motor can be on that side but I don’t think those colours are correct, as Graham said, an Rs2000 has an electric fan, this was powered by an extra loom fed from the battery by a relay triggered by a thermostatic switch in the top carb side of the radiator. If I remember correctly the inertia starter solenoid and the coil were under the battery tray, are the wires anywhere near there ?. Again the colours are wrong, I would expect to have seen one of the black wires have a yellow trace.

Rs2000 had a separate plug with 3 wires on the same side for the alternator which run across the front across to the other side but I think they where black red and brown.
