    Pinto timing/carb issues

    Having trouble getting 2.0 pinto to run right.newish built with big valve head rl31 cam 10.5.1comp.trying to set up with fully reconed weber 32/36 at min.timing around 12% but wont idle prop no matter how i turm mix screw.changed idle jets 45.47.50.52.55. Can get it to run but when i check plugs there coked up/rich adjusting timing either way will cut out. Plus idle speed screw is fully out to get it to tick over at around 15rpm.running bestek ignition bosch dizzy.tried diff cap.rotors.magnicor leads. Any ideas chaps

    you wont get it right! you have too much cam for the carb, the intake vacuum will be very low so it wont draw any fuel through unless you have the throttle so far open it pulls fuel through the mains.

    im afraid you either need to change the cam or fit sidedrafts

    Thanks graham i had a feeling carb was not up to the job.how come it works on brisca pintos tho?

    they are not worried about idle quality, i suspect they have higher compression which is going to be better at generating some intake vacuum. also as far am aware they dont use an RL31 cam, they probably use a cam better suited to a twinchoke
