    Polycarbonate windows

    Hi folks :-)

I've been thinking about fitting polycarbonate windows to my Mk2 estate.

Has anyone ever considered using the normal window rubbers and fitting them exactly as you would fit glass? Seems like that would avoid the need to drill holes in the shell.......

My Mk1 only ever had the normal window rubbers in the rear quarter windows.

Estate rear quarter windows are very large though, as they're only 2 door.

most polycarbonate windows are only 4mm thick to save weight ( 4mm is min requirement for race/rally) so they will be a loose fit in normal rubbers as glass is thicker.

you could bond them in, that way no rubbers and no holes, lighter still. my race car has a bonded in polycarb windscreen

My Mk2's are the same - 4mm polycarb windows, rear quarter windows and rear window are just held in with the normal rubber, so should be fine on an estate
Door windows are similar with some bolts underneath the polycarb (not through) to keep them up in the frames as I removed the winders
