Duratec 146mm crank pulley on duratec 2.5

    Guys,

Little bit stuck, have a solution but far from oem and not sure about durability.

I am placing a stock Duratec 2.5 in the car. The stock crank pulley is 164mm but is for 2 belts.
Coming from a Duratec 2.0 with a 146mm crank pulley that fits but then the crank sensor will be an issue.

I can order a 164mm pulley for one belt but these are all underdrive. That will cause issues with waterpump and alternator.

    How do people solve this?

basically would need a single belt 164mm pulley with original size pulley or a small adjustable crank sensor.

On a performance motor an underdrive pulley is a good thing, A standard engine spins pulleys fast to make sure theres enough speed to cope with the worst possible traffic in the hottest possible temperatures in really hot countries, in reality its too fast for moderate european climates

True, but it is not a performance engine. Stock rev limit and will not only be 6000rpm on track but also day to day driving.

What I should mention, It is in a Lotus Elise. The engine is in the rear, rad in the front. It has I think around 12 litres of coolant. Besides that also has a big laminova that does restrict flow a little.
the standard pump was already having a hard time when driving below 1500rpm or stationary. (Could keep the coolant temp steady but not lowering it)

added a secondary electric pump up front that turns on to keep the engine cool below that rpm.

i am worried about a under drive pulley. The alternator should not be that much of an issue as i exchanged that pulley to a larger one to slow it down a bit. Can undo that. Mainly waterpump being the issue.

btw, the 2l waterpump pulley is smaller then from the 2.5, already used the small one.

Car is running with the smaller pulley. Works fine with alternator, need to check waterpump.

Only issue 2 issues, one is the 2 vs 3 wire camshaft sensor. 2l was using magnetic pulse, 2.5 is hall sensor. Next to that need to connect the vct to the emerald k3.

I think maybe you have answered your own question. Have you considered going completely electric like a "davies craig" and have it control the flow etc.

I have a davies graig as secondary. If I would go full electric I would use one from a BMW but for now, i like to keep the mechanical pump. Can still remove the large heater circuit if not turning fast enough

It would be interesting to know the results when you go full electric.
