    Starter Solenoid problem

Went out to start the car today, turned the key got the lights but nothing else, checked under the bonnet, the starter solenoid has a manual override button, car started no problem, so assuming solenoid has gone, question is can I change it for the newer type one without the button as they seem rare and mine has definitely seen better days

    Like these ones here:

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Starter-S...QAAOSwpNVf~EfD

wiring from the diagram i have for the thinner cables is:

Black solenoid energising signal to earth via ignition
black and yellow to starter coil

right or wrong? on the photos the solenoid is seen not securely bolted but it was when testing

You can change it for the newer type.

However check that you have battery voltage at the solenoid (one of the smaller terminals)when the ignition key is turned to the “start” position i.e. to make the starter motor operate. As you may have a problem “further up the line”.

    Happer Easter.

    Thanks Frenchenstein

    Just to update
Fully tested the solenoid today off the car all working ok
Reconnected, works fine on the manual button
checked the continuity of the black 'starter wire' all good
hot wired at the switch connector (red and black) car turns over

So conclude the ignition switch, no separated output on the sprung start position (universal one fitted when bought) have ordered a new one

    Will update once switch arrives

    Cheers

    Re: Starter Solenoid problem

Happy Easter Monday, I did a little video to explain where I am at, had a query that the black and yellow went to the starter and not the black, this demonstrates it is the black to the starter

    cheers
